Chromium

The most important chromium ore is chromite. It is found in lenticular or tablular ore formations, primarily in South Africa, which supplies around 50% of worldwide demand. Other countries where it is mined include India, Kazakhstan and Brazil. Around 15 million tons of marketable chromite ore is mined annually around the globe. Chromium is generally utilized in the steel industry as an alloy metal for tool steel and stainless steel.

At Geberit, chromium is used on the one hand for the chrome-plating of actuator plates, siphons and faucets, but it also plays an important role as an alloy component in piping systems. Stainless steel, which is alloyed with other metals such as nickel, tungsten or titanium, has outstanding properties at high temperatures.
