Bauxite
Nearly all bauxite being mined, namely around 95% of world production, is used in the manufacture of aluminum. In the Hall/Héroult procedure named for its two discoverers, it is dissolved in molten cryolite in order to obtain the aluminum by smelting. The most important source countries are Australia, the USA, Jamaica, Brazil, Guinea, China, Russia and Surinam. Because bauxite deposits are usually found near the surface, it is easy to mine.
Aluminum is the third most important metal for Geberit’s production, where it is used for Mepla pipes.
